From a thriving settlement for early humans to the most polluted large lake in the state of Florida, Lake Apopka has undergone a devastating transformation. For a Lake that has been peacefully intertwined with human history since around 10,000 BC, for the destruction to be caused by humans seems unthinkable. But a larger question looms over our study; Why does no one talk about Lake Apopka?

 

This Project aims to bring light to the history, community, and environment around Lake Apopka. Through these stories, we will learn what happened to the people and wildlife that lived and worked on Lake Apopka, we will meet the people trying to make a difference, and finally, we will learn how this transformation happened, and what it means for all Floridians.
